The Toshiba Fellowship Programme offers outstanding PhD-level researchers studying or working in a UK academic or Governmental institution the opportunity to join Toshiba's R&D Laboratories in Japan for up to two years on a Research Fellowship Contract. Applications for the 2012 intake are now open.
About the Programme
The Toshiba Fellowship Programme was set up over 25 years ago and to date, it has given over 30 Fellows a unique start to their careers, and Toshiba's R&D departments have gained from their fresh thinking in return. Many of the Toshiba Fellowship alumni have gone on to build successful careers, investing their skills back into the UK and European economy.
The programme offers a generous package including support for the re-location of the successful candidate and their family. Key research topics for 2012
Materials & Devices - Ultra-compact laser and its integration with Si photonic waveguide - Carbon-based spintronics device - Device simulation for CIGS solar cells - Development of organic functional materials for future lighting and display - R&D of materials for nano-electronics using nano-fabrication by self-organization process
Media Technologies - Machine vision for human behaviour recognition - Unified approach to automatic speech recognition and knowledge integration
Mechanical Engineering - Fluid dynamics for energy research
Network - Network Control Systems
Software - Parallel programming model and implementation

Applicants must be: * Holding the nationality of an EU member state * In possession of a PhD or reliably expected to obtain one by the time they begin the Fellowship in Japan * In possession of less than ten years maximum post-doctoral research experience * Studying or working in a UK academic or government institution at the time of application
