The Commission recently renewed their request for scientific experts willing to act as evaluators for Framework 7 proposals. Becoming an evaluator offers an excellent opportunity to understand the EU Framework evaluation process and provides opportunities to network with Commission desk officers. EPSRC Follow-on Fund

Dear colleagues Please see information attached and a link below to information on the EPSRC-supported follow-on fund. [BBSRC, NERC and STFC also support follow on funding]: http://www.epsrc.ac.uk/CallsForProposals/FollowOnFund2010 The purpose of this funding scheme is to bridge the funding gap between traditional research grants and commercial funding by supporting the very early stage of turning research outputs into a commercial proposition. The deadline for the latest call is 4pm on Thursday 25 February 2010.

Proposals invited: research information management

JISC has invited institutions to submit proposals for projects in the area of research information management.

'Research Information' in this document refers to structured information about projects, researchers, research outputs and their value and impact, research impact more widely, funding streams, organisations such as funders and universities, and so on.

There is funding of up to £400,000 available for projects funded through this call. Projects should be up to six months long, and grants available will range from £20,000 up to £50,000 per project.

In the interest of sustainability, evidence of institutional commitment is required. This can be shown in direct funding contributions from the HEI to the project, commitment of staff time, equipment, software purchase etc. It is anticipated that projects in the call will involve institutions already working in this area and therefore will have complementary plans in place.

The deadline for receipt of proposals in response to this call is 12 noon UK time on Monday 11th January 2010. Projects should start at the beginning of March 2010 and end by the end of August 2010.

I am pleased to invite you to a workshop on interdisciplinary working in research. It will take place on 10th December 2009, 12:30-2:00pm in the Elder Room, Old College and will be run by Dr Catherine Lyall, Deputy Director of INNOGEN (http://www.sps.ed.ac.uk/staff/innogen/lyall_c).

Dr Lyall has extensive experience of running very popular workshops in this area, so we are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity.

This workshop will be of interest to you if you:

- are interested in working interdisciplinary in your research

- are a researcher in any subject

- are working at PI level (either holding or bidding for a research grant yourself)

This event is not suitable for individuals who are finishing a PhD or who are early on in their postdoctoral career.
